Session A9 Live in Concert

In June, the fèis organised a band workshop with those musical maestros, Session A9. This band was put together by Charlie MacKerron, Capercaillie's famous fiddler.

The members are:

• Charlie MacKerron one of Scotland's finest fiddlers.
• Duncan Chisholm who plays with Wolfstone.
• Kris Drever, son of singer-songwriter Ivan Drever. Kris, a brilliant guitarist and double base player.
• Tim Edey who toured Scotland, Wales and USA with the popular traditional Irish and Scottish band Anam as their box player. Tim has also recorded with Donald Shaw and Charlie MacKerron for the BBC Scotland TV series "Gruth is Uachdar!
• Gordon Gunn. A great fiddler and a prolific composer whose tunes have been covered by other artists such as Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham.
• Brian McAlpine a multi instrumentalist and much in demand on the session scene.
• Adam Sutherland best known for playing fiddle in the trad funk outfit Croft No 5.

The band held a workshop in Oban High School in conjunction with the school's music department.

Later that evening the band played for the public at a concert in the Corran halls. Some of the fèis youngsters were lucky enough to be invited onstage to play along side the band. For many of the Oban High pupils, this was their first taste of Scottish traditional music and judging from their enthusiasm, it won't be their last!
